I am thankful for my couch at this moment. I can sit back, kick my feet up and use my son's computer to keep in touch.
I am thankful for technology. Computers, phones, ipods - love all of it!
I am thankful for the Off Button on all this technology. I love the quiet. Especially in the afternoon when it's reading time. No computers, music or tv's, just books and silence.
I am thankful for washing machines. With all the laundry I do, I can't imagine doing it by hand and line-drying.
I am thankful for the home friends are building and how God has proven Himself so large in their lives!
I am thankful for time to go to Oklahoma and visit friends and family. And I'm praying those contractions Aunt Kelli were having today prove productive before I have to come back home!
I am thankful for babies. That's sweet, gurgling, peeing, pooping, spitting bundles of joy that remind us how much God loves this world.
I am thankful for Thanksgiving - I love this Holiday! My favorite season of the year!
I am thankful for all of those who read this blog and I pray blessings on their life today, In Jesus Name!

Pray for Chris
Four weeks of illness is waaay too much for this kid! As time has gone on, he hasn't been able to eat without extreme pain, can't run without pain, can't drink without pain. Monday, he missed school again; went on Tuesday; had to come home on Wednesday with extreme pain. We saw Dr. Z and had to make some tough decisions.
On Wednesday night, after Chris being sick again all week, loosing more weight and still not being able to eat, we drove to Denver with an appointment to see a Pediatric GI and a Pediatric Surgeon today, Thursday.
The drive was uneventful and David was able to go with us. It took exactly 7 hours from home to hotel with no "bumps" in the road (i.e. the passes were clear, the wind was down, gas mileage was great, and the kids slept!)
Today, we saw both doctors - the GI guy was so nice and like, "hmm, could be gall bladder; need to continue h.pylori treament; let's talk to the surgeon." The surgeon was like, "yeah, what's the question, he needs his gall bladder out." We were told that although the tests were not 100%conclusive, his symptoms, persistent pain, progressing illness and abdominal tenderness pointed him in the direction of needing to remove his gall bladder.
I do feel better having him here at Children's. Everyone in Durango has been great. Yet kids need Kid Doctors. The surgeons was straight forward with Chris and I about the risks and possible complications and the fact that this may not be the cure - though he felt like it was a small chance that it was not his gall bladder. Chris listened and then the Dr. sent his schedule-lady in to see us.
SIDE NOTE: David had taken Ashley upstairs to see her surgeon and have her legs x-rayed - they are 3mm closer in length! In 4 months we'll have more x-rays. At this rate, may get to remove her pins in the fall! Their office was so great - I talked them and told them we were in the Hospital Clinic for our son, and asked if we could get an appointment and we did. Everyone looks so good on her legs and she got to keep a photocopy of her x-rays. Cool.
BACK TO THE STORY -
God worked it well! He had one slot open for Friday! So, no driving home and back to Denver! Wow, God!
We will spend the night in Children's Friday night and then come home on Saturday.
Thanks to everyone who is feeding dogs, watching the house, hauling supplies and mostly for PRAYING for us!
"The steps of a righteous man are ordered of the Lord." I would much rather God have ordered our steps to stay in Durango. For God to heal Chris. For the h.pylori meds to have done the trick. For doctors there to be His hands for healing. But God brought us here. Our steps have been prepared. The angel of the Lord has prepared our way.
We just walk.

Grief
Grief comes in many forms. Often it comes in multiple waves. It can be over small things or life-changing events. It can manifest itself as anger or tiny tears down your cheek.
No one has the right to tell another person their grief is unwarranted. Or that they should "move on." Each person's time of grief is different in length, duration and severity.
Do not insult a person but trivializing their grief. After the death of a loved one, "at least they are at peace." After a car wreck, "it could have been much worse." Or even when a precious tea cup is broken, "you have so many more."
My friend is in grief. She lost her possession in a tragedy - yet not in one simple swipe, and it's all gone. No, she must grieve the initial insult on her family's home and haven. Then she must grieve as she sifts through the rubble. She must grieve each time she decides, "can I salvage this or is not now trash?" She must grieve each time someone else asks her what they should do with the remains of memories they were not apart of yet now hold in their hands. She grieves as she leaves the shell of a house each day only to return and begin the process again.
I grieve with her. For the memories lost. For the pain she must feel. For the conflict in her heart as she celebrates that her family is still alive and yet struggles with the reality of their loss.
Only possessions, some may say. Yet are they willing to throw everything they own into a dumpster and begin again tomorrow with nothing? They can be replaced, others nod. Can she return to each antique store or vacation knick-knack shop and relieve the moment a child found a precious treasure? Not quite.
But I will stand beside. Lift her arms when she grows weary. Love her. And as the grief subsides, we will make new memories! New teddy bears with new meaning. New tea cups with girlfriends.
And when the grief comes again, we will cry together. For although the Lord will bless again, only in Heaven will we known complete restoration.
Love you, friend.

Tomorrow
The surgery is over. We've been home a week and 3 days. Recovery is going well.
Now it gets tough.
Juggling work, family, school and doctors appointments and therapy appointments and checking insurance claims against bills. Then add Christmas! And programs and parties.
The surgery was cake compared to what lies ahead.
Therapy is not pretty. It hurts her. It's hard to watch.
But it's essential.
A doctor once told me that he does not allow Grandparents to attend therapies or certain medical procedures because a Grandpa once cold-cocked him for causing his grandchild pain. This doctor went on to explain that a parent is willing to see their child endure pain in order to accomplish a greater good. Hence, the pain of therapy for the benefit of being more mobile. A grandparent wants to intervene and stop all pain, regardless of the benefit.
I think this is why God has no Grandchildren.
Father God is willing to let us suffer temporary pain in order to bring us into a relationship with Him. We must each have our own relationship with Him as Savior. We cannot go to Heaven on the experiences of our parents or grandparents. We cannt go to Heaven based upon the ethereal definitions of being a "good" person or being "kind". It is all about relationship.
God is longing to have a relationship with you. He wants you to know Him personally, intimately. Not just know "of" Him. The demons know "of" God. The angels in Heaven know God as creator. But only you, only a Human Being can have a relationship with Him. He will be what you need when you need it - Father to the fatherless; Husband to the husbandless; Friend to those who feel unloved. He will be your Provider. He will be your Healer. He longs to be your Father.
Won't you answer His call?
Father, I want to have a relationship with you. I want to know Father God as more than a vague reference to a disconnected diety. I want to Know you. My life has not been perfect. I am a flawed being and your perfection is sometimes intimidating. But I will take you at your word when you say you love me just as I am. I accept the gift of Salvation that you offer to me. I accept a new start for my life. I believe you are God. You are the only God. I want you to be my God; my Savior, my friend. I choose today to turn away from my own selfish ways. I choose to walk with you. Walk with my, Father. Thank you.

Standing in Line
Ashley and I started the school year off with a bang! Or rather a virus. She seems to have bounced back well, but it's keeping off my feet. I work 'til noon and then I'm so tired, I have to lay down. I hate this! I have too much to do!
I spent my morning working with the Health Team to do assessments for Kindergartners, 2nd graders and 1st graders. Of course, that could be why I'm tired, too! I shuttled kids up an down the hallways for 2 hours!
One teacher asked her kindergarten students to "get in line behind your friends!" A little girl refused to be line but stood one step to the left of everyone. I repeated the teacher's request to her and asked her to get "behind her friends." She looked at me with big eyes and replied, "No one in this line is my friend."
There's a lesson here. Sometimes we feel we have no friends. That no one likes us or agrees with us. But, where are we? Are we standing one step to the left where no one can reach us with friendship? Are we refusing to let people love us?
Lord, let me be willing to be loved, even when I feel unlovable. Let me adjust my attitude so that you can reach me. So that other people can touch me. They need me as much as I need them. THX, XO KB
